In the accumulated to August, theft from cargo vehicles increased 0.6% compared to the same period in 2023.
In its latest monthly vehicle theft statistics, the National Association of Vehicle Tracking and Protection Companies (ANERPV) detailed that at the end of the eighth month of the year, 142 stolen units were recorded, this represented an increase of 2.8% compared to August of the year. Last year, this meant an increase of four units. In turn, the figure reached in the aforementioned month increased 14.3% compared to July of the same year.
Puebla was the entity with the highest crime incidence with 46 stolen cargo vehicles, this represented 32.3% of the total nationwide. In second place was the State of Mexico with 27 robberies, equivalent to 19.0% of the total. Hidalgo was the third entity with the highest incidence with eight robberies, which represented 5.6% of the robberies in the eighth month of the year.
In the accumulated amount to the second quarter of the year, there were a total of 1,135 stolen heavy units, of which 26.4% were concentrated in Puebla, this means that the entity accumulated 300 crimes. It should be noted that since May 2024, the state has topped the list as the most risky for cargo transportation.
On the other hand, the State of Mexico has dropped one step on the list of entities with the highest crime rate, ranking second for the fourth consecutive month, with a cumulative 259 stolen units. In turn, Hidalgo ranked third at the end of the second quarter of 2024 with 90 thefts of heavy vehicles.
López Obrador detailed in his report that in the aforementioned period, 34,265 operations were carried out, 17,546 more than last year. Although the operations increased by 51.2% compared to those carried out in 2023, the impact to reverse the trend was not enough, since the theft of cargo vehicles continues to rise.
